About Me

In my experience working in the mental health sector for the last 5 years, therapy is often sought after someone has suffered long enough or until the symptoms become unmanageable.

 

It is my hope that as we continue to de-stigmatize mental health more people can feel comfortable utilizing this valuable service as a preventative measure and not as a last resort.

 

My approach as a therapist is simple: helping others increase awareness and insight into their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I believe through careful introspection and analysis we can reach a level of compassion and acceptance for ourselves and others that may pave the path to emotional and mental wellbeing; or as I like to view it, “getting realigned and redefining the vary things that may have been holding you back.”

 

I’m a proponent of therapy that meets every individual’s unique needs. I owe a great deal of my growth as an individual and as a human being to this process and it has been my passion to continue mastering this craft.

 

My purpose lies in serving others in their own self-discovery. For me personally, it’s an amazing feeling to witness other’s transformations and getting to be a part of that– however small it may seem.

Specializing in Anxiety Treatment, Depression and Trauma

Anxiety

Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations.

 

Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).

 

These feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with daily activities, are difficult to control, are out of proportion to the actual danger and can last a long time. You may avoid places or situations to prevent these feelings. Symptoms may start during childhood or the teen years and continue into adulthood.

 

Examples of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), specific phobias and separation anxiety disorder.

 

You can have more than one anxiety disorder. Sometimes anxiety results from a medical condition that needs treatment.

Whatever form of anxiety you have, treatment can help.

Depression

Any type of depression can make you feel sad and keep you from enjoying life. However, atypical depression — also called depression with atypical features — means that your depressed mood can brighten in response to positive events.

 

Other key symptoms include increased appetite, sleeping too much, feeling that your arms or legs are heavy, and feeling rejected.

 

Despite its name, atypical depression is not uncommon or unusual. It can affect how you feel, think and behave, and it can lead to emotional and physical problems.

 

You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.

 

Treatment for atypical depression includes medication, talk therapy (psychotherapy) and lifestyle changes.

Trauma

Trauma happens when you experience an event as physically or emotionally harmful or even life-threatening. Your body’s ability to cope is overwhelmed.

 

Even though the event passes, trauma has lasting adverse effects on a person’s mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being. 

 

With nearly 61% of men and 51% of women experiencing trauma in their lifetime, it’s essential to understand what trauma does to the brain to be able to heal and minimize life-long adverse effects.
